Root Canal Treatment at Grandis Dental
At Grandis Dental, our experienced dentists may recommend root canal therapy—also known as endodontic treatment—to address infections within the tooth. While an infected tooth can cause significant discomfort, root canal therapy is an effective way to alleviate pain and often preserve the natural tooth.
Although some patients may feel apprehensive about the procedure, modern techniques, including local anaesthesia and sedation options, ensure that treatment is generally no more uncomfortable than a routine filling.
If you suspect you may need a root canal or would like more information, please contact us at (08) 6404 2899 to schedule a consultation.

Root Canal Therapy: A Solution to Save Your Tooth
Root canal treatment is the only dental procedure capable of effectively treating an internal tooth infection while offering a strong likelihood of preserving the natural tooth. Infections typically occur when the enamel becomes cracked or worn, allowing bacteria to reach the soft inner tissues (pulp) of the tooth. This can lead to intense toothache, sensitivity, and—if left untreated—may result in the loss of the tooth.
To determine the cause of your symptoms, your dentist will conduct a thorough examination and may take diagnostic x-rays. If root canal therapy is appropriate, we will walk you through the process and develop a personalized treatment plan to address your needs.
FAQ
Find simple answers to your Root Canal Treatment questions with Grandis Dental’s trusted care.
What are the alternatives to a root canal?
The main alternative is tooth extraction, which may be necessary if the tooth is too damaged to save. Our dentists will explain all your options so you can make an informed decision.
Is root canal treatment painful?
Root canals are often thought to be painful, but the procedure itself is not. Most pain comes from the infection, not the treatment. We use local anaesthesia to keep you comfortable, and sedation is available if you’re feeling anxious.

What to Expect During a Root Canal Procedure
Root canal treatments are performed under local anaesthesia to ensure a pain-free experience. For patients who feel anxious, we offer sedation and sleep dentistry options to help you feel more at ease throughout the procedure.
Depending on the complexity and condition of the tooth, treatment may require multiple appointments. To eliminate the infection, our dentists create a small opening in the tooth to access and remove the infected pulp tissue. The root canal is then thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and reshaped before being filled with a biocompatible material designed to restore the tooth’s structural integrity.

What to Expect After Root Canal Treatment
Once the tooth has been thoroughly cleaned, disinfected, and sealed, it is typically restored with a dental crown. This helps to reinforce the tooth’s structure and protect it from further damage or infection.
Mild discomfort, swelling, or minor bleeding is common in the days following the procedure, but these symptoms are usually temporary and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief. We recommend avoiding chewing on the treated tooth for a few days and sticking to soft foods to aid in healing.
Root canal therapy has a high success rate; however, the treated tooth may gradually darken over time. While this change is purely cosmetic, our dentists can discuss aesthetic treatment options—such as veneers or crowns—if you wish to improve the tooth’s appearance.
